Lithium vs Tubular: The Honest Truth

Lithium is the future. Tubular is the present. Here's how to choose without falling for either hype.

What lithium actually does better

Lithium batteries weigh a third of an equivalent tubular, charge in roughly half the time, deliver almost their full rated capacity (tubular gives you about 60-70% usable), and last 8-10 years instead of 4-5.

They also don't need topping up with distilled water, don't off-gas, and don't lose capacity in long power cuts the way a lead-acid battery does.

Where tubular still wins

Upfront cost. A 150Ah tubular setup is roughly one-third the price of a comparable lithium pack. For someone facing 2-3 power cuts a week of under an hour each, the math still favours tubular.

Tubular is also more forgiving. It tolerates abuse, deep discharges, and bad chargers far better than lithium chemistry does.

Our honest recommendation

If you have long power cuts (over 2 hours), space constraints, or plan to add solar within 3 years — go lithium. The total cost of ownership wins inside 4 years.

If your area has short, infrequent cuts and budget matters more than convenience — a quality tubular battery from a reputable brand will serve you well for another decade.
