Exide vs Amaron Car Battery — An Honest Comparison
We fit both every week. Here is where each one genuinely wins on price, warranty, life and service — without the showroom sales pitch.
The short answer
Both are good batteries. In identical Ah ratings and warranty terms, the price gap is usually under ₹1,000, and the life difference in Indian driving conditions is smaller than the difference your own drive pattern makes.
Choose Amaron if your car sits unused for stretches or you want the longest maintenance-free interval. Choose Exide if you want the widest claim network and the deepest range of capacities, including older and commercial fitments.
Construction and maintenance
Amaron's calcium-alloy, sealed maintenance-free design holds charge well when parked and never asks for water. That is a real advantage for a second car or a weekend vehicle.
Exide sells both sealed maintenance-free and low-maintenance lines. The maintenance-free range performs comparably to Amaron; the low-maintenance range costs less upfront but expects an occasional top-up and a cleaner charging system.
Warranty — read the two numbers
Both brands publish warranties as a free-replacement window plus a pro-rata tail. A "60-month" battery may only carry 24–36 months of free replacement. That first number is the one worth paying for.
Claims on both are handled through authorised dealers. What decides your experience is not the brand but how close a genuine claim point is to you, and whether your original invoice and warranty card are intact. Photograph both the day it is fitted.
Real-world life in Indian conditions
In our workshop, both brands routinely return 4–5 years in daily-driven cars and 2.5–3 years in short-trip city cars that never complete a charge cycle. The failure pattern is nearly identical, and it is almost always chronic undercharging, not chemistry.
Heat is the other factor. Batteries in Hyderabad summers age faster than the brochure assumes, whichever badge is on the lid. A charging-voltage check at fitment tells you more about the next four years than the brand choice does.
How we decide on a job
We check the alternator output and the parasitic drain first. If the charging system is out of spec, a new battery of either brand dies early and the customer blames the brand.
Then we match Ah and terminal layout to the manufacturer's specification, offer both options at their honest prices, and let the customer choose. We do not have a house brand we push.

Which is better, Exide or Amaron?
Neither is universally better. Amaron edges ahead on charge retention for cars that sit unused; Exide offers a wider fitment range and a denser claim network. At the same Ah and warranty, expect similar life.
Is Amaron more expensive than Exide?
Usually by ₹300–₹800 for a comparable capacity and warranty. That gap is small next to the cost of choosing the wrong Ah rating.
How long should a car battery last?
Four to five years with regular driving and a healthy charging system. Cars used only for short city trips often see 2.5–3 years because the alternator never restores what the starter draws.
